Whenever I'm cutting out a project, whether it be a quilt or clothes for the grandchildren, I cut the scraps into squares and pop them into zip-lock plastic bags. I'm not wasting precious storage space on bits of fabric I'll never use and I already have a wonderful assortment of 3in, 2in and 1 1/2in squares 'for free' for my next quilt!
To stop the foot controls of your sewing machine and overlocker slipping and sliding over the carpet, cut a piece of velcro and attach the hook side to the underneath of the control. Non-slip matting which is used in caravan china cupboards can also be used.
